Who We Are
Quilting For A Cause was started in 2018 by Lola McDonald and Geneva Raby who understood and experienced the devastating diagnosis of cancer. It was quickly joined by a few Grassy Valley women who were also cancer survivors and who understood the difficulties of going through the treatments of chemotherapy and radiation. Their experience and their God given burden led to start a ministry of making quilts to keep the patient warm while going through treatments.
What We Do
The Quilting For A Cause ministry meets in the Church Fellowship Hall the 2nd Saturday of each month at 9 am and they work until noon. Some bring their own sewing machines, but they also have a few machines that have been donated for those who don't have their own. The process of making the quilts incorporates all levels of skill, from cutting pieces, to sewing, to arranging and ironing. Once enough quilts are complete, they are taken to cancer centers to be given out to patients undergoing chemotherapy.
What's Different
More than giving physical warmth, Quilting For A Cause prays over each quilt that it will bring warmth and comfort to the patient and that they will feel and know the Love of Jesus Christ. We then attach this verse to each quilt: "Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction so that we will be able to comfort those who are in any affliction with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. For just as the sufferings of Christ are ours in abundance, so also our comfort is abundant through Christ. But if we are afflicted, it is for your comfort and salvation; or if we are comforted, it is for your comfort, which is effective in the patient enduring of the same sufferings which we also suffer." 2 Cor. 1:2-5
