Food Pantry Founders
In 2018, God used an incident in Jerry's life where he was miraculously spared from a car accident. The months following led to a greater understanding of how true followers of Christ when being the hands and feet of Jesus, can make an impact on the lives of others. During his recovery from the wreck, bills began to pile up and the cupboards became sparse. Christian brothers and sisters and others helped them through a very difficult time. And though they are on the other side of the storm, their memory of that season of hardship has never departed.
After Dr. Mark Martin expressed the need from the pulpit for a food pantry, Jerry Massey and his wife Debbie stepped forward with a God-sized calling on their lives. What started out as an idea to have a small closet with shelves filled with canned goods to give to people who stopped by, the Lord quickly showed us that our vision for this ministry was way too small. Our community food pantry went from a small closet to a large room filled with shelving units and freezers filled with food.
Matthew 25:35 "For I was hungry, and you gave Me something to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave Me something to drink; I was a stranger, and you invited Me in"
Since 2021, the Food Pantry has grown exponentially. With financial support from Grassy Valley Baptist Church and outside entities, the operational hours went from being open one day a month to one day each week. Community businesses, neighboring churches, and Knox County residents continue to bless the church with food and monetary donations. In the few years we have been open, thousands of hungry people have been blessed with food to fill their cupboards.
If you need help with food, Grassy Valley Food Pantry is open Thursdays from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. weekly.
